About Josephine Giaimo

/I am a User Experience Researcher, Leader, Strategist, Mentor, Coach, Writer, and Speaker.

I started my career in data science in the 1970s, performing valuations for the insurance and brokerage industries in group pensions. Since then, I pivoted into user experience research, performing ground-breaking work in collaborative, computer-supported, cooperative work, decision support systems, distance learning, and more. This work was funded by The Annenberg Foundation, IBM, The Office of Naval Research, and The State of New Jersey.

\While getting my degree at night, I worked during the day at NJIT’s Computerized Conferencing and Communications Center, directed by Dr. Murray Turoff and Dr. Starr Roxanne Hiltz. My masters degree in industrial engineering proposed a framework for evaluating the performance of neural networks and statistical approaches in predicting project profits. I also worked extensively in user experience research at the time, including graduate level coursework in the design and evaluation of interactive and information systems, among others.

Since then, I have been consulting on a number of user-centered and/or user experience research efforts, including for AT&T, Google, ADP, IITRI, Medidata, Vital Decisions, Charles Schwab, and others.

I also have been mentoring and/or coaching junior and/or aspiring user experience researchers who have a variety of mentoring and/or coaching challenges in front of them. My coaching style is supportive and assistive, and I suggest or recommend options to those who request such information. I find that this leadership style works very well with those who are seeking guidance and/or direction in their careers.

As a certified job coach through the New Start Career Network, I have also served on the Board of Directors of Job Seekers of Montclair, and have been providing informal coaching and mentoring to a number of professionals, especially within the technology and/or UX career space, for years.
